How Wendy’s Finally Knocked Burger King Down A Notch

Just a few years ago, when Americans hungered for exotic flavors or artisinal anything, they didn’t seek it at Wendy’s or any other fast-food establishment. But quick-service restaurants are redefining themselves, starting with changes to the sorts of menu items they offer. They’re placing a sharper focus on ingredients and transforming their dining rooms into Starbucks-style hangouts, largely so they can compete with the growing popularity of so-called fast-casual restaurants like Five Guys, Chipotle and Panera Bread, which don’t offer table service but do have higher-quality items than fast-food joints. (Think of them as the middle ground between McDonald’s and Applebee’s.)

Wendy was being squeezed by Five Guys on the higher end and 7-11 on the lower end. So Wendy's followed McDonald's lead, focusing on their menu and making it more healthy and appealing. Meanwhile... Burger focused on their creepy mascot. "Wake up with the King"? No, thanks. Asiago Ranch Chicken Club? You bet!

Transforming Grimlock: How High Moon saved the Dinobots | The Verge

Media_httpassetssbnat_eauba

Hasbro was going to kill off the Dinobots because they were "irrelevant". Matt Tieger, Game Director of High Moon Studios, convinced Hasbro that the Dinobots could still have a place by tinkering with their origin and amping up Grimlock's abilities. Matt Tiger is my new hero, and this is my favorite quote from the article:

"It was really easy for me to get behind Grimlock as a playable character ... for some very selfish reasons. He was a big fucking space T-rex. Who doesn't find that interesting? He [is] a story driver. You don't even have to like Transformers to be interested in this character."

Social Game Makers Place Their Bets

Game companies will face plenty of competition from gambling heavyweights. Casino operator Caesars Entertainment (CZR) last year purchased the maker of Slotomania, a Web slot machine app with 6.7 million monthly visitors, for $80 million.

In January, Caesars used the Slotomania development team to launch Caesars Casino slots, roulette, and blackjack on Facebook. International Game Technology (IGT), the world’s largest maker of slot machines, in January paid $500 million for Double Down Interactive, which runs a Facebook poker game that has 5.6 million monthly users.

“There are a lot of players at the start line, ready for the gun to go off,” says Patti Hart, International Game Technology’s CEO. She says her company has held talks with Activ-ision, Zynga, and others about partnerships “to bring the two separate universes together.”

Why are Zynga and so many others interested in "social gambling"? Researcher H2 Gambling Capital estimates online gambling will be worth $30 billion globally in 2013, with $4.5 billion of that in the U.S. That's why.

"Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit" is a 2D game starring an undead rabbit on a buzzsaw motorcycle with a huge gun, hacking and blasting through the legions of hell. The demo was awesome. I would buy it right now if it was available. Coming "Summer 2012".
